Do You Skip Breakfast?

If you skip breakfast, you’re not alone.  Many Americans do.  Sometimes it’s because they didn’t leave enough time to prepare breakfast.  Sometimes it’s because they think that by skipping breakfast they can forego the extra calories and lose weight.

Do you know why it’s called “breakfast”?  Take the word apart and we have “break” the “fast”.  You literally haven’t eaten since dinner or maybe a bedtime snack.  That’s got to have been 8-12 hours that you’ve gone without anything to eat.

Now your body is going to think you’re putting it through starvation mode and do the logical thing … slow down your metabolism.  Yet, pretty soon it’s going to be sending out signals that are going to make you ravenous.  Before you know it, you’re eating far more calories than had you eaten breakfast.

What’s interesting about breakfast is that it normally is the easiest meal for people because what they eat for breakfast rarely changes.  Somehow we seem to think that dinner should have variety, whereas we’re okay with breakfast always being cereal and milk or yogurt and fruit or eggs and toast.  With that, breakfast should actually be the easiest meal for you to prepare and eat.  Consider making your breakfast the night before.
